Before technology becomes part of life, we used to do such things by ourselves.
Renting an apartment, driving a car, and food delivery services are an example of a sharing economy.
Instacart moved one more step forward and brought the idea of home delivering grocery products to the customer doorstep.
Before Instacart, we had to visit the store and collect the products, and that was a time-consuming process.
- Make a list of grocery items.
- Drive to the grocery store.
- Review the entire shop and collect the items.
- Stand in line to make a payment.
- Scan the entire product barcode.
- Drive back home.
So there were six processes to purchase at the grocery shop, and if there are more processes, then please shoot in the comment.

What is Instacart?
Instacart delivers groceries directly to customers’ homes by partnering with local stores. In order to fulfill and transport orders, the company relies on independent contractors and part-time employees.
There are no set hours, and orders are placed through the Instacart Shopper app. If you are a full-service or in-store shopper, you will find that the key details, such as job responsibilities and the way you earn money, differ.
Instacart’s full-service shopper:
- An independent contractor
- Deliver groceries and shop for them.
- You are able to work when it is convenient for you.
- Instacart offers Role anywhere they operate.
An in-store shopper:
- Instacart employee part-time.
- Only in-store shopping is available (no delivery, so a car is not necessary).
- Including Sundays and Mondays, work at least 15 to 20 hours per week.
- Take advantage of 401(k) savings.
- In order to meet the growing demand for in-store shoppers, many areas are offering temporary in-store shopper jobs. These positions will last approximately 90 days.
How much do shoppers on Instacart make?
Your job determines how much you earn. Shoppers in-store are paid an hourly wage that varies depending on where they are located. Customers who order full service are paid according to their order.
With every order, Instantcart estimates earnings potential and guarantees that shoppers will earn between $5 and $10 for a delivery-only batch and between $7 and $15 for a full-service batch (shop and delivery).
According to Instacart’s Shopper app, your pay depends on how many items, what types of items, and how far you are driving.
If you have a larger order, which is usually heavier, you will likely be paid more than if you have a small shopping job. The earning potential is usually higher during times of high customer demand, such as the Super Bowl and on Sundays.
When making deliveries, full-service shoppers can also earn tips.
What is the Difference between FSS and ISS Shopper?
There are two forms of working in Instacart
- In-Store Shopper(ISS)
- Full-Service Shopper(FSS)
There is a slight difference that In-Store Shopper is a full-time employee, and Full-Service Shopper is an independent contractor or self-employed on Instacart.
ISS Shoppers paid 5-9 dollars depending on their location and fixed-rate might differ to cities and states.
FSS Shoppers are self-employed and get paid a minimum base amount depending on per batch.
FSS Shoppers get as per batch, plus tips and other bonuses offered by Instacart such as earn extra if you complete ten batches.
Base pay of ISS and FSS shoppers can change at any time whenever Instacart wants.
Instacart Shopper earning also depends on time and place where a shopper is available.
During the summertime, there are high chances shoppers get less order, and after school starts, they will earn more.
Certain hours if the batch demand is high, Instacart will pay more than usual at that time.
Typically 25-30 dollars can be earned per hour in FSS excluding gas and mobile usage.
The faster you deliver the grocery to a customer the more batch you can get and in that way you can have more than 30 dollars.
YouTuber Reeves states a shopper can earn $35 in 40-45 minutes by doing normal grocery shopping in Instacart.
Due to the pandemic, they need to focus on social distancing while buying the products and work with masks and sanitizers.
Notes: There are other shoppers on Instacart who make $5 per hour, and everything depends on supply and demand.
The area you covered, times and customers that decide how much money you can make on those batches, and expenses such as gasoline used to deliver the product to customer home, tips, and other aspects such as Instacart incentives policy for the shopper that adds money in your batches in a day.
How does Instacart pay its shoppers?
Every week, in-store and full-service shoppers receive direct deposits into their checking or savings accounts.
Full-service shoppers benefit from Instant Cashout, which allows them to receive their earnings faster. When five batches have been completed, Instant Cashout can be requested. As long as you have at least $5 in earnings, you can cash out as often as you like. Each day, you can withdraw up to $3,000 in earnings.
Since full-service shoppers are considered independent contractors, they may be required to pay estimated quarterly taxes. Due to Instacart’s tax policy, its employees do not pay taxes on their earnings.
How to Shop on Instacart?
If you are a new shopper and this is the first day as a shopper, and you have no idea about shopping on Instacart, then have a little tutorial.
- Go to the Instacart App Dashboard.
- Check the batches’ availability.
- View the batches.
- Select a suitable batch for yourself.

- Navigate to the store if you don’t know the address.
Now go to the store and collect the grocery items, you can scan the product, and if you didn’t get any product, then you can have an alternative.

What expenses should be taken into account?
You won’t need to pay anything to join Instacart, but you’ll need to think about associated expenses. When you shop in-store, you should account for the following:
- Fees for using the platform
If you shop full-service, you’ll be charged for these fees:
- Gas and insurance for your car
- Wear and tear on the car requires additional maintenance
- As an independent contractor, you must pay taxes
It is not necessary to put money aside to cover these expenses, even though they rarely outweigh the benefits.
